Art is(t's) Life

The Gang’s All Here

The newest chapter of my life (the one in which I play at being a real adult with a real world job) now has some new faces.  And where would Doodle Lamb be without some cartoon versions of her playmates to adventure with in the Doodleverse?

As with most people, one tries to relate one’s relationships with one’s friends to tv character relationships.  Oh, no?  You don’t do that?  Well, fine then, I stand corrected.  *Some* people — like yours truly — have a tendency to do this.  With my colleagues at work, we’re part of the Psych gang.  Ok, Lindsay & Arielle are Shawn & Gus to be sure, and the rest of us just tag along.  And of course I’m Lassie.  Somebody has to be the wound a bit too tight, real brains of the operation.  The Law is The Law, people.  And I do *not* aim to misbehave.

Next, I woke up this morning feeling very magical (not really) so I drew up a quick “House Pride” cartoon of the lovely Lindsay and myself.  She’s a Gryffindor through and through - brains, beauty, and brawn - and as always I embody the ambitious nature that comes with being Slytherin.

Lastly a request from Steven for a Deadpool rendition, complete with little sidekick Louis.  Don’t think anyone is going to cross that masked Yorkie anytime soon.

NEW PET QUEST: OCTOTHULU! There’s a new pet in town! The dreaded Octothulu, sticky spawn of the stars, has emerged from a whirlpool in a dark cave by the sea. It’s up to you and your party to banish the foul beast by being extra-productive! If you manage to defeat it, you might just find some octopus eggs… Purchase a quest scroll from the Marketplace, and try your hand at defeating this eldritch mollusk!

Octothulu? OCTOTHULU!!!How am I supposed to work now that all I can think about is my habitrpg character riding an octopus cthulhu hybrid, devouring all in its path? I need this day to be finished. NOW.See, this is what happens when I take a five minute break to check my phone.

The Dark Side of Work

When the workflow is on the slow side, I take to drawing during down time. Sure, I’m certain I could find something more productive to be doing - this is me we’re talking about after all, I can always find something to do. However boredom falls away much faster in the Doodleverse, and despite the angry little Asajj Ventress Lamb depicted above, I’m definitely a much more pleasant person after I’ve been sketching.

And besides, doesn’t it count as being productive if I’m taking something off my To Doodle List?

The Doodles are Ready! The Doodles are Ready!

All colored, cut out, and ready to go on the board. Now if we could just locate a new cardboard box for the castle walls because the cleaning crew tossed our old one over the weekend…

Princess Lindsay Mononoke
So it took less than a month before my requests from work started piling in.  As you’ve probably seen from previous posts, I had 10 medieval themed doodles to knock out so we could begin decorating our huddle board.  But in the midst of all that, several other people came up to me asking for cartoons.  I have a feeling everyone in my office is going to have a doodle hanging up in their cubicle before too long.  But let’s not focus on that right now, it’s mildly terrifying.
Anyway, here we have Princess Lindsay Mononoke, who I think looks quite awesome.  Her wolf companion on the other hand had some disagreements with me this morning, and decided not to cooperate.  If you too think he looks like a giant squirrel, well you can take that up with him.
And what would a Princess Mononoke doodle be without a few Kodama running around and being sneaky?

Dragon Con costumes part one

…In which Lamb takes on her somewhat celebrity doppelganger the great Alison Brie.

Since I was recently told I looked a lot like Community’s Annie, and we all know that we have similar personality traits, I thought it only fitting to cosplay as the take no prisoners Ace of Hearts from “Fistful of Paintballs.” However there will be no Disney face pouting - I can’t physically or mentally do that.

I’m mostly concerned about the burgundy vest. I haven’t found one yet that I like, so I may have to make that one by hand…that should be interesting since I haven’t touched a sewing machine in about eight years.

And the boots. The boots are key since I’ll probably be wearing them with at least one other outfit, if not all three.

This will probably be my simplest cosplay this year, which is both a comforting yet slightly terrifying notion. And I’m sure designs of the others as well as pictures of the actual progress will soon make their way here.

Let the countdown to Dragon Con begin!

Wizards, and Jesters, and Minstrels OH MY!

As you can see the board doodles are coming along quite nicely.  Yes, some of them are cut off funny because they’re going in the windows or along the wall.  I’m getting more and more excited for this board each day ^_^

We Will (Continue) to Prevail

…Otherwise known as Attack of the Giant Doodles!

Starting to draw a few full bodied doodles for our Huddle Board Castle.  If you missed it, quick recap: I love my work.  I love the people.  Our team is AWESOME.  And our Huddle Board where we measure each other’s awesomeness is about to become the most epic white board in the history of white boards. Not. Even. Kidding.

We’ve decided to frame the board with cardboard cut-out castle towers, complete with a wall at the top, pendants, and several windows.  There may or may not eventually be a moat.  Team Warriors goes big or goes home…and we do not go home.

Anyways, I’m drawing doodles for the windows, and if you can’t tell by Robin Hood Lamb on the right, their heads/bodies are about three times their normal size.  So it’s kinda slow going.  I’ve got two done - one is a larger print for the window of our talented little Ryan on the left.  I’m hoping to have the lute hanging out the edge of the window.  I’ll post it with the next batch as my mischievous minstrel decided to dye her hair over the weekend, and I need to double check with her before proceeding.

2 Down. 8 to go O.o

We Will Prevail

Almost finished with the faces for our team. Aren’t we just adorable?!

So at my new work - which shall remain nameless for security reasons because I really want to keep my job - our team has decided to call ourselves The Warriors because we’re badass awesome like that and kicking down tasks everyday like a boss. Seriously, our team is the best. We know it, and so do all the other teams. It does help that we have two artists in the mix, and our talents have come in quite handy.

Currently we are working on decorating our team huddle board where we measure our job performance and give shout-outs to team members for excellence. Fun fact: it’s only Week 2 of my actual job and I’ve been on the board twice. Woohoo!

Since we are The Warriors and our team motto is “We Will Prevail,” we’re going with a medieval theme and I’m drawing all of us as doodles to fit in and around the magnificent castle we intend to build.

But you know me, I couldn’t just leave it as simple cartoon heads peeking out of windows and over fortress walls. No, I had to take it one step further and give every character a little more depth and personality. To the surprise of absolutely no one, I’m Robin Hood. We also have a princess, minstrel, jester, queen, lady of the court, knight, wizard, and one super cute dragon. All I have left to do now is a nurse and a maid, but they’ll have to wait until tomorrow. Little Lamb needs sleep.

"Distillery Dilemmas"
I found this lovely article posted on my wall the other day with the caption “Aww… Pigley 4” and immediately had the idea to turn it into the above cartoon: http://time.com/96170/whiskey-flavored-pigs/
It would seem Dr. Krieger has been doing some freelance experimentation down at the Templeton Rye Distillery in Iowa lately.  Those poor Pigleys…
Being the mad scientist that he is, Krieger’s handwriting needed to be appropriately horrendous, so it’s a good thing I’m not ambidextrous when it comes to writing and drawing.  That terrible left-handed chicken scratch comes in handy every now and again.
And if I’m going to be drawing piggies, there’s going to be some Charlotte’s Web action (especially since Templeton is in the name).  The debate was between “Whiskey Pigs” and “Bourbon Bacon” but the latter won out in the end…because Bacon.
